East Bay shoreline in several cities, as well as waterways that flow to the Bay.Here are some of the local cleanup events:A cleanup at Shimada Friendship Park at Peninsula Drive and Marina Bay Parkway in Richmond from 9 a.m. to noon, hosted by The Watershed Project and county Supervisor John Gioia, will remove trash and debris from the edge of the salt marsh along the Bay Trail. There will be a free barbecue for volunteers at noon. Volunteers help clean up Shimada Friendship Park in Richmond during a California Coastal Cleanup event hosted by Supervisor John Gioia back in 2012 (photo posted by Gioia on Facebook). The supervisor is set to hold his 27th Coastal Cleanup at the same park site.The annual California Coastal Cleanup is this Saturday and volunteers are encouraged to join one of several in the Richmond area.For the 27th year, Supervisor John Gioia is sponsoring the Richmond Marina shoreline cleanup based at Shimada Friendship Park, located at the end of Marina Bay Parkway. The event runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and includes coffee, snacks, supplies and free lunch. Johnny Tsacoumangos, a 4-year-old boy in Kirkwood, Mo., has formed a friendship with Bill Fair, the sanitation worker who services his home. Tsacoumangos’ dream job is to become a sanitation worker, and to get a jumpstart on his career, he has begun helping out with simple trash cleanup duties.To show his appreciation for Fair, Tsacoumangos drew him a picture of a recycling truck to hang in his locker.
