Then the Clean Pittsburgh Commission, which works on the city’s litter and dumping issues, will weigh the collected trash bags in East Liberty, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, Garfield and the Strip District to determine which neighborhood takes home the gold.Andrews says as far as rules go, teams aren’t allowed to take trash out of garbage cans or dumpsters, or place heavy non-trash items into the bags to get an advantage. She’s not too worried about that, anyway.“I mean, I think people who pick up litter aren’t really cheaters,” Andrews laughed. And anyway, she said, it’s not about who wins.“I like the nature of competition, to me the Olympics says ‘competition.’ But it also says ‘participation.’”Andrews says in the two years she’s been participating in bi-monthly cleanups in East Liberty, she’s really appreciated getting to know her neighbors and working together on the problem of litter.Sarah Shea from Pennsylvania Resources Council is the chair of the Clean Pittsburgh Commission, and she’ll be the one out there on Saturday weighing each bag of trash. A new $20 million methane plant at a landfill in Lawrence is turning trash into an energy source. The plant at the Hamm landfill has begun collecting harmful greenhouse gas produced by rotting trash and turning it into fuel for natural-gas-powered vehicles, the Lawrence Journal-World reported .Hamm officials said at a ceremony Wednesday that the new plant joins other recent projects that lessen the landfill's environmental impact, including a recycling center and a new system for capping landfills."All of these projects are a great story for the community," said Charlie Sedlock, director of waste services at Hamm. "Added taxes, added jobs, added sustainability."The plant collects and processes methane gas that is released as organic material when trash decomposes. The plant includes extraction wells, a gas-processing facility and a seven-mile gas pipeline. The methane plant is expected to collect more than 4 million gallons of fuel a year, said Chris Morley, chief financial officer for Enerdyne, which has partnered with Hamm for the pl... Utah, using Idaho’s water and leaving Idahoans with the nuclear waste.Because of the 1995 agreement, Lawrence Wasden, the state’s attorney general, is able to refuse these shipments. It is imperative that we support Mr. Wasden in his efforts and let our legislators know that this is not good for the economy or for Idaho’s well-being. There is no job that is worth the sullying of our water supply.Melody LenknerTwin Falls... (Idaho Mountain Express and Guide)
Wescott. Some restaurants may add back patios or takeout windows that open onto the alley, while the lot behind Saint Lawrence Gridiron will become a pocket park. Construction should be completed by fall 2018."I've worked in the public sector all my career and this was an unusual moment where we were on the same page as the city, and longtime downtown developers," said Wescott.
