“Outstanding service. They were extremely careful delivering the extra large container into our driveway.” -- A. L. GARNER
Lindquist says the most likely contender for the next trash wheel is Honolulu. He says he has given presentations to Toronto, New York City, Milwaukee and Newport Beach, California. While many places show interest in investing in trash wheel technology, Lindquist says the biggest challenge is disposing of hundreds of dumpsters of collected waste. Lindquist says the Healthy Harbor Initiative is about “engaging people in the restoration of the harbor,” and Mr. Trash Wheel has put a face to that effort. “He’s really become the mascot now for the restoration of the Baltimore Harbor,” he says. “If you care about clean water in the harbor, you know who Mr. Trash Wheel is, and you follow him on social media.” ... MILWAUKEE -- You may be thinking about going to the beach, this 4th of July weekend.Milwaukee County Parks workers gave us a sobering look at the amount of trash they pick up, afterwards.Parks workers wake up at dawn to win the war over beach litter, with the help of a groomer machine. It sifts through the sand six hours each day, to pick up the smallest trash, such as cigarettes. The operations manager tells us litter from that machine alone will fill up a 36-foot-long dumpster each Summer week, from Bradford Beach. The operations director tells us three more workers have been added to the team of cleaners in the past two years. Parks workers will pick up garbage for about four hours, each Summer day. Another 90-foot-long dumpster is filled to the brim each week from that trash. The new Milwaukee County Parks director hopes this serves as a strong reminder to do your part before a busy weekend."Just take it with you-your own garbage. We want to make sure we do everything we can to keep... (lwaukee County Parks adds staff to keep up with trash at parks)
MILWAUKEE —Century-old books belonging to the Pabst family were discovered in an unlikely place.Kathryn Thoman was overseeing deconstruction for contracting firm Recyclean when she discovered three dozen books belonging to the Pabst family in a trash bin. Thoman spent three days sorting through trash to collect the books. AdvertisementThe books were once housed at the Renaissance Book Shop on Plankinton Avenue, but the building was deemed unsafe and had to be demolished. "It's the perfect illustration of how fragile history truly is because you can see how quickly something can fall into a dumpster," said John Eastberg, executive director of the Pabst Mansion. The collection includes literature, German folk stories, poems and school books belonging to the Pabst children. Eastberg said these books fill the lost chapters of the Pabst family legacy. "I've always envisioned this as a huge jigsaw puzzle, so you're constantly getting these pieces. It fills in a picture of what they're dail... (WISN Milwaukee)

In addition to the charitable advantage of events like this, Milwaukee Fire Chief Mark Rohlfing explained that having firefighters in the public eye in non-emergency situations builds the relationship with the community. To date, Mr. Trash Wheel has collected over a million pounds of trash, to great local acclaim. So much so that “Professor Trash Wheel,” a second collector, was installed in December 2016 at the end of Harris Creek, and a new trash wheel is now planned for the Gwynns Falls area, which would be the third in Baltimore. The trash receptors use the river’s current for power, and solar panels when the current is not strong enough. The trash wheels extend floating booms that funnel trash from the river up to rotating forks that sort the trash and move it onto the con... (urbanmilwaukee)
